My Opinions on Current Events
10/7/5 - THE WAR IN IRAQ
To be honest... I'm quite against the war. I don't think we should be over there. I don't think we should have ever gone
over there. Do you know why we went over in the first place? If your answer is "because of 9-11," then you're wrong.
That was the Saudi's, via Afghanastan. No no, we invaded Iraq to de-arm the citizens. Upon ariving, we discovered that they
were already de-armed and so, unable to admit our own mistakes, we decided to take over their country and make them just like
us! What right under heaven do we have to go fix another country? My British Literature teacher put it best. "When God
looks down and sees a dictator killing his own people, that's bad. But when God looks down and sees thousands and thousands
of women killing thousands and thousands of their own unborn children every day... tell me which is worse!" Jesus tells
the parable of dealing with the log in your own eye before messin' with the speck in your brothers eye. What a good job we
have done of looking upon our own sins as "ok" or "non-existant" because we are the mighty United States
of America. We have diplomatic immunity. Oh puh-lease.
10/27/5 - THE PATRIOT ACT
Torch it. The Patriot Act is one of, if not the, most un-constitutional things our government has ever done. Writing up
a document stating that they have the rights to invade our privacy at their own will goes against everything this country
is built on. They can tap your phone lines, research what books you've checked out of the library, etc. etc. They are asking
us to give up our domestic freedom to protect our country against terrorism. Doesn't sound that bad, does it? Fact is, taking
away our freedoms in such a fashion IS terrorism. Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death." He did
not say "Give me protection from terrorism or give me death." Benjamin Franklin stated that "Anyone who would
trade their freedom for safety deserves neither freedom or safety."
